A short walk away from Piazza del Popolo, the Osteria St. Ana occupies an historical building which sits on the mediaeval foundations of what once were the warehouses of the famous noble Roman Borghese family.
Opened in 1968, the restaurant is divided into four convivial air-conditioned rooms for a total of 160 patrons. Some of the rooms feature boots for romantic dining, other have been set up for company dinners and the like.
Our cuisine is typical Roman but on our menu you can also find dishes from other Italian regions. Great meat and sea food dishes, together with an excellent selection of wines. Special Roman side dishes are carciofi alla giudia (artichokes Judean style) and Puntarelle (Dandelion salad). We will be happy to serve you with punctuality and a smile. |

Cuisine: 10 | Service: 10 | Ambience: 10 | Wine list : 10 We spent 10 days in Rome on our Honeymoon and this was the best restaurant we ate at. We liked it so much we went there 3 times. We were treated like family by two excellent servers, Mimmo and Lorenzo. The last night we were there we never saw a menu, they recommended the best freshest items available that day and we selected from their descriptions. This is real Italian food made when you order it not a premade cookie cutter, get the masses served, restaurant.

The food and service is wonderful. Our server was very kind and took care of our every need. The prices were very reasonable. You will not regret choosing this restaurant!

Cuisine: 8 | Service: 10 | Ambience: 9 | Wine list : 8 My wife and I visited St. Ana for the first time in 2007. Both the food and service was splendid.
So it was naturally that we booked again on our trip in 2008. This time we were 8 persons, therefore we decided to book via the internet. St. Ana has invested in a huge ventilation system, which means you are allowed to smoke inside in certain areas. We requested a table in that area and within a short timeframe we received a confirmation for the reservation.
When we arrived to the restaurant, we were met by one of the owners, who welcomed us and showed us to our table. Our waiter took over and asked if we would like some antipasti as starters and if he should mix some different, making us able to taste a various number. We agreed on that and received in return so many different antipasti, that they have to add another table to hold it.
After the antipasti, the waiter suggested we had pasta. As we know the Italian kitchen, we knew that it could be too much food. So the waiter offered half a portion instead. Very flexible.
After the pasta, the waiter offered to serve to different meals on one plate. So we had both pork and beef, separated by mashed potatoes.
The first time we saw the menu card, was when we had do decide for dessert. We could fully recommend St. Ana and will certainly come back. We have never had better antipasti, the waiter was there when we needed him - without standing on our back, the rooms are big – but still cosy, the prices are in the upper end - but worth every penny.

Ambience: 10 | Service: 10 | Cuisine: 9 | Wine list : 9 Brilliant restaurant. We ended up going there 3 times during our stay in Rome. Their headwaiter is an absolute genius at up-selling, so be warned. But he does it with such panache that it just adds to the experience, and his recommendations are faultless.
Also, being treated as a valued customer, rather than a petty annoyance, makes this place quite unique for Rome.
Decor and ambience are in the "so tacky it's brilliant" category, and given the overall level of service, food and presentation, this is not rally a wallet-straining experience. You could pay a lot more for a lot less. |
