You don’t need to take a one hour flight to taste excellent Sardinian dishes: the ‘Ristorante Sardegna’, which was opened a couple of years ago by two natives of Sardinia, Giancarlo Garofano and the chef Siro Sanna, offers the best sea cuisine and, on request, land cuisine of Campidano, near Cagliari. The ambience is elegant yet comfortable and the open-kitchen offers guests the opportunity to see the kitchen action. Great and accurate service.
Fresh fish and seafood is brought in on a daily basis, so you can taste excellent raw starters such as oysters, shrimps, tuna and dentex tartare. Specialties on the menu include ‘spaghetti con ricci di mare’ (spaghetti with sea urchins), ‘fregola con arselle, ragù di scorfano e gallinella’ (home-made Sardinian pasta with clams, scorpion fish and tub gurnard sauce), ‘orata in umido, con menta e carciofi spinosi della Sardegna’ (stewed gilthead bream with mint and and typical Sardinian artichokes), ‘rombo con pinoli, uva sultanina e vernaccia’ (turbot with pine nuts, raisins and vernaccia) and ‘capretto in umido con cardi selvatici e pistilli di zafferano’ (stewed kid with cardoon and saffron pistils).
The wine list is classical, with a wide selection of prestigious wines at reasonable prices, like the ‘Turrita rosso’ and the ‘Capichera’. The delicious ‘seadas’ and all the other typical Sardinian desserts are patiently hand-made. |
