The Hostaria Antica Roma is situated on the "Regina Viarum" or Queen of the Roman roads; the via Appia Antica.

Here, in the green and quite surroundings of the Appia Antica Archaeological Park the Magnanimi family has created their restaurant which is constructed around a large funeral monument which was erected for the freed slaves of the emperor Augustus.

The menu offers a variety of gastronomic specialties, including fresh fish every day and a good selection of national wines. In several large dining areas, located in the open air or inside, it is possible to organise receptions, weddings and banquets.

The food was magnificent I had been in Italy all week and this was by far the best Italian meal we had. The service was fantastic and we were a party of 10. We let the owner choose our meal and he provided a sampling of all different entrees and salads. His own cheese spread creation was extremely tasty. I highly recommend this restaurant as a destination meal, plan on staying for awhile and enjoy the food and wine.

A visit to Rome is not complete without experiencing the hospitality, ambience and authentic cuisine of Hostaria Antica Roma. The menu is rich with unique recipes and if you ask you can enjoy a delicious cheese that is prepared and served only at Antica Roma. If you are lucky you can enjoy a sensational Peach Tiramisu that Paolo serves occasionally. The Magnanimi family makes every guest feel special and after a dozen or so visits to Hostaria Antica Roma I recommend the restaurant to every person who seeks an extraordinary dining experience in Rome.

Dining at Antica Roma was a feast for all of the senses. From the moment we arrived, our gracious host, Paolo welcomed us and gave us a short tour and history of this place. The ambiance was festive and romantic at the same time. We had a group of 7 people, a mix of Americans and Italians, and the waiter was wonderful explaining the menu. Our food was wonderful and the wine was incredible. Paolo explained that he has a vineyard that makes wine just for his restaurant. We were there for almost 3 hours. I didn't want to leave. When I get back to Italy again, no matter what region I visit, Antica Roma is on my list of places not to miss.

For truly classic dining, go to this tavern built into ancient ruins that serves recipes written down by Apicius, who is credited with writing the world's first cookbook. Try the pollo oxizomum, baked chicken slathered in fish sauce.
