My husband and I have been on the hunt for good Malay/Indonesian food for years. Our search is finally over! Kudos to the chef!
I am not an expert on Indonesian food, and so I can't judge how authentic the food was. They served us small portions of ten different things, and a couple of them (like the beef stew) were excellent. A few of the chicken dishes tasted off, and so we didn't eat those. The service was okay. The staff smiled politely, but seemed annoyed to be there. I guess we might give the Moluccas room another try, but not any time soon. There are plenty of restaurants to try out in Singapore.
I believe the food at the Moluccas Room is excellent always, but the Restaurant Week deals make it exceptionally value for money. This year, it was done Rijsttafel style, with lamb, chicken, beef, fish, vegetables, potato and keropok. If you love Indonesian food, this place is as good as it gets, imho. Gotta love the ginger soda (jahe gembira) drink too.
The food was good but not exquisite. The only exception was the lemongrass drink which was really thick and flavourful. Service was prompt but there was some waiting between food.
The food gave us another view of Indonesian cuisine. The taste and presentation of the food also suit Chinese people. It's a good opportunity for my family to try Indonesian cuisine in a nice place.
There was no choice for the set though the food was tasty. However we found out that they have a weekend set of $60 for 2 pax with refills. Hence the deal during Restaurant Week is not much of a deal.
Also our overall dining experience was spoilt to the max by a group of about 12-13 pax. The adults were busy chatting away while the kids were screaming and running about in the restaurant. It was a noisy experience for us. When we requested to change our table we were told that there were no other available tables. We initially wanted to end our lunch with dessert but changed our minds when the noise level from the group escalated.
While the Moluccas Room was nicely decorated and comfortable and the view was good, we were unfortunately seated next to a large table with lots of loud talking and a kid screaming. Even though the seating may have been pre-arranged, the waiter could have suggested another table, since there were many empty tables when we arrived.
The food though not a lot was sufficient. However the fish I had was a tad too salty. I was disappointed with the sayur lodeh. There were just strips of vegetables not my idea of sayur lodeh.
We would love to stay a bit longer or even for dessert but the noise was too much for us and the kids keep opening the door, bring the heat inside.
Not sure if I would visit again.
It was our first time to dine at The Moluccas Room. It was a pleasant experience .
after dinner there, my girl friend did not feel good and went to clinic... that is it!!
I had read the reviews before coming here with my boyfriend, hence expectations were not very high. However, the food was really good. We had egg battered croquette with chicken ragout for starters and they were delicious. Nasi Goreng followed and i love the sambal prawns. Dessert was probably only the let down. Other than that, a great meal in all.
