Modern Indonesian and baliness cuisine. The portions are way too small to enjoy each course and I left the restaurant looking for alternative dinner options.

The view & ambience completely blew my socks off. Unfortunately could not say the same of the food, based on the menu offered that week. I had a peek at the regular set lunch menu, which at $35++ seemed to offer better value, and frankly dishes also sounded a lot more interesting than what they chose for the restaurant week. Portions for this restaurant week was on the petite side, fine for ladies, but suspect the men may have had to fill the gap with a tea break in mid-PM. Overall, the chef shows promise, the satay was by far the stellar dish. Beef was overcooked, and lacked natural flavor, overpowered by the rendang style sauce. Regular menu definitely looked/sounded a lot more appealing. I'll be back to try, but more because of the Amex promo. They deserve a 2nd chance, but they better not blow it.

Dinner was a disappointment on 3 accounts. 1. Very long waiting time 2. Very poor service 3. Very small portions (of food) On the long wait time: It was a family dinner as well as an opportunity to bring my grandmother to Marina Bay Sands. We were seated at 630pm, but waited at least 45 minutes for the first dish to arrive (which was the starters) even when the restaurant was only 60-70% full. In the meantime, there was absolutely nothing to eat - even crackers would do, but nothing was provided. Another long wait occured after tha main dish - we had to wait 25 minutes for dessert which was basically scoops of icecreams and should have been fast and easy to prepare (while the restaurant still remained at most 70% full, therefore we simply could not figure out what the staff/chef was busy with). On the poor service: Several staff could not speak proper English and did not seem to know what was going on. Also, after taking our orders, upon delivering the dishes, instead of going around the table to ask each of us what he/she had ordered and then serving him/her the dish accordingly, the waitress instead named each dish in turn and asked who had ordered it. i.e. "hands up those who ordered the satay" - surely proper waiting service should not be done like so (in the first place, the waitress should ideally remember what each of us had ordered). On the small portions of food: While we were well aware the set menus were significantly cheaper than usual due to this being a restaurant week, we felt that the restaurant should not have cut down the portions so small as to result in "kids-sized" meals rather than "adult-sized meals". We would like to suggest, that, even if meal prices were lower than usual, perhaps the restaurant could provide rice or something else more filling which is a cheap ingredient in and of itself. In the end, we had to eat cup noodles shortly after taking dinner at The Moluccas, which was rather funny actually. In all - a very bad experience. I was planning to rate service as only 1 or 2, but found that this website has a minimum of "3" in the sliding scale. What a pity!

Reservation at 8.30pm. Seated at 8.35pm. Main course arrived at 10.05pm. A dinner has become a supper. The waiter blamed the influx of diners from Restaurant Week for the delay. Well, don't participate until you can give decent service! My husband and I were left starving for 1 1/2 hours with only 2 sticks of chicken satay (the appetizer) to sustain us. When the main course came, the it was only a tasting portion and was too small to make a meal. The dessert was finished in 2 mouthfuls. We adjourned to another establishment to have a supper after this. If I had known this restaurant had planned to starve us, I would have picked another one and not have gone to this cursed Moluccas Room @ MBS.
