Mirch Masala first opened its doors near the west gate of Chaoyang park in 2002. Since 2006, the restaurant is located in Nanluogu Xiang, one of the few hutong areas that still exist in Beijing.
The restaurant offers authentic Indian food and drinks, ranging from the exotic Mughlai to the simple homely cuisine of the North and East Indian regions. It also has a wide selection of vegetarian dishes and dishes can be custom-prepared to your preferred taste. The drink list includes Indian drinks and bollywood cocktails.
The name 'Mirch Masala' translates quite literally as 'sophisticated flavors' and this is the ethos behind the menu. It contains classical favorites as well as original dishes that include Chinese flavors with an Indian twist. |

Location in nanluoguxiang is a plus right off the bat. The decor's nice, sort of a "back to nature" kind of Art Deco feel, and the service is prompt and polite.
As far as the food goes, The samosas were pretty good, and the aloo paratha completely average. The chicken vindaloo was, however, an A+ experience. Tons of flavor, and just about the spiciest vindaloo I've ever put in my mouth. I can't explain why I enjoyed so much a dish that made my eyes tear up, my lips swell, and left the roof of my mouth numb, except only to say that sometimes such a visceral eating experience can be the most gratifying.
I will most definitely be back the next time I'm jonesing for a curry hit.

Hello friends,
I just wanted to let other Indian food-lovers in Beijing that they can find some of the tastiest Indian food at a great little restaurant called MIRCH MASALA at Nanloguxiang (the famous pedestrian hutong alleyway.)
MIRCH MASALA has a great atmosphere, with a very friendly and courteous owner and stuff - always playing great Indian/ lively Bollywood music - but never too loud - and its easy to get to table even though it can get busy at dinner time. The owner, Mr. Daya, is a sweet man, and he will make sure you are comfortable, and that you order the right combination of dishes.
The best part could be the prices. Unlike other Indian restaurants in the Jing, MIRCH MASALA is very affordable and well-priced. And the quality of the food is excellent. All ingredients are freshly sourced, daily, according to the owner, and this is easy to tell when you taste the delicious food.
If you like your Indian food spicey, just say so. Or if you prefer a milder version, that's fine too. The kitchen will make it the way you want it.
A great place to take a date - or family - or friends. Or even to go alone.
It's hands-down the best Indian experience in Beijing. Very authentic, well-located right in the middle of bustling Nanluoguxiang hutong, with great food, atmosphere and prices. What more can foreigners who need their weekly fix of Indian cuisine ask for?! Not much, believe me.
Hope you enjoy this great place the next time you want a great curry. And some hot naans. Yummy.
