In 1984, Café-restaurant Walem was one of the first modern establishments in Amsterdam. Since then its special design and unique character have been preserved: in the centre of the ring of canals, a long and spatial Café-restaurant, in the front facade, designed by the architect Rietveld, and to the influence on the friendly interior.
The public is mixed and the atmosphere is pleasant and fashionable. The lunch is good, traditional but modern, and is quickly served by friendly waiters. The mostly Mediterranean dinner, accompanied by a weel selected wine-list, is varied. High demands are set upon the quality of the product; meanwhile the coffee is widely known in Amsterdam. |

Food: 9 | Service: 3 | Decor: 8 The restaurant was very hip and crowed inside. We were sat quickly with a great canal view right by the front window. We ordered from a good menu and then waited and waited. We watched another party come in next to us order, get served their food, and then we waited some more. The table next to us was finished and was getting ready go go when I went and found our waitress. She said that my steak (filet medium rare) was taking a long time. Once we finally received our food about 15 minutes later it was wonderful! The steak was great, my daughter had an excellent mushroom soup and my wife loved her Tuna Sandwich. Besides the slow service it was a great experience and at least we were sitting with a wonderful canal view while we waited. |
