The historical Amsterdam building in which the restaurant Proeverij 274 is situated is but a stone's throw away from the Westertoren Church, in the heart of the Jordaan, on the corner of the Prinsengracht and the Elandsstraat.
The restaurant is divided over two floors, the ground floor looking out over the canal and below that another floor. The lower floor with it's natural stone floor and open kitchen is a perfect location for groups of up to twenty five persons to eat or celebrate. The wooden tables with their comfortable chairs, coupled with the open layout create a pleasant and intimate atmosphere, the candlelight and authentic stone floor only add to this.
Food: 9 | Service: 9 | Decor: 9 Very good indeed one of the best in Amsterdam that I have been to. It was there on a cold Sunday night on 23 November 2008 and was impressed by the efficient staff and the premises. We decided on scallops followed by Steak. Both excellent.

Food: 6 | Service: 9 | Decor: 9 The restaurant's upper room has a very pleasant atmosphere and the service was great. The meal, while tasty and well-presented, did not live up to the expectations set up by the reviews here -- the meat was overcooked and a little on the tough side.

Food: 10 | Service: 10 | Decor: 10 Once again this restaurant reveals its true strength. Apart from the most excellent food and wine the service is superb. There was a mix up over our booking but apart from a quick 'Uh-oh' from the host it was resolved and we ended up with the best table in the place. Even better we got a free drink for our trouble. I will be back without doubt.

Food: 9 | Service: 10 | Decor: 8 We came here for a team night out and had a fantastic time. The food was absolutely excellent and the service second to none. Nothing was too much trouble and a number of complex dietary requirements met with good cheer. We took over the downstairs room and marvelled at how such a small kitchen could produce such wonderful food. We will definitely return as a team and in the meantime I will be treating my wife to dinner very soon.

There is no rating for excellent! Diverse menu catering for vegetarians as well as meat eaters. Decent selection of wine for a Dutch restaurant. Relaxed friendly service. The ingredients are really fresh and one can tell in the crisp textures of the meal. This one is special and better than priciers places like the Altman in de pijp. The only annoying thing is that the table is not really cleaned up whilst you eat so don't make a mess!
